How it all began...
The Night of 1000 Voices has thrilled capacity audiences at The Royal Albert Hall since 1999. The Night of 1000 Voices was originally produced as the centenary celebration for The National Opera and Dramatic Association with 1000 members of NODA singing songs from the shows.
Subsequently, for the last 10 years, an audience has thrilled to the sight and sound of the huge The Night of 1000 Voices massed choir from around the British Isles, seventy five children and young artistes from the Sylvia Young Theatre School and the London Studio Centre together with The City of London Philharmonic (HEY, MR PRODUCER!, SONDHEIM TONIGHT and CHESS IN CONCERT) who accompany some very special stars from London, New York and Europe in a musical night to remember.
Every year a musical great or an aspect of musical theatre is chosen to be celebrated - these have included The Broadway Musical, Cy Coleman, Stephen Sondheim, Tim Rice, John Kander and Fred Ebb and Trevor Nunn.
In 2006, for the first time and as a tribute to Caron Keating and Gloria Hunniford, The Night of 1000 Voices performed to a capacity audience in the 8,000-seat Odyssey Arena.
Special guests who have performed in The Night of 1000 Voices include Michael Ball, Graham Bickley, Alan Campbell, Len Cariou, Glenn Close, Cy Coleman, Peter Corry, Michael Crawford, Anthony Crivello, Kerry Ellis, David Essex, Maria Friedman, James Galway, Tiffany Graves, Joel Grey, Roy Hudd, Gloria Hunniford, Kelli James, Alex Jennings, John Kander, Howard Keel, Laura Michelle Kelly, Lauren Kennedy, Judy Kuhn, Brian May, Annette McLaughlin, Alan Menken, Roger Moore, Caroline O’Connor, Elaine Paige, Adam Pascal, Jerome Pradon, Philip Quast, Tim Rice, Cliff Richard, Yngve Gasoy Romdal, Claire Sweeney, Rebecca Thornhill, Sally Ann Triplett, Colm Wilkinson and Riverdance.
